About Denzil Grant

Denzil Grant was educated at Fort Augustus Abbey and trained in restoration at renowned West Dean College, in Sussex, where he gained a diploma on the BADA furniture restoration course. Whilst at the college he met his wife, Nicky, who was doing the Tapestry course and they started Denzil Grant Antiques in 1976.

It began as a restoration business and in 1979 opened a dealing division in the Netherlands. Over the next 30 years they had three beautiful daughters and traded in East Anglia, with shops in Ixworth and Long Melford and exhibited at many of the major fairs. These included: Olympia, Chelsea, BADA, NEC and LAPADA.

He has served on many vetting committees and currently chairs the Olympia Oak and Country Furniture Committee. He also currently serves on the Council of the BADA where he chairs the Fairs Forum.

In 2011Denzil withdrew from fairs to concentrate on his own exhibitions at Green Farm Gallery and his very active website: www.denzilgrant.com

Denzil’s exhibition catalogues are strong on naïve art, vernacular painted and country furniture and objects, with colour and surface being paramount. He believes that the unforced nature of putting catalogues together combined with an eye distilled from over 30 years of trading creates a discipline to include only the very best or most unusual items.

Elected to BADA membership for 18th- and 19th-century country and French provincial walnut, fruitwood and oak furniture; tapestries; objets d'art; primitives; folk art; restoration.
