About Tadema Gallery

Following successful careers as photojournalists David and Sonya Newell-Smith founded Tadema Gallery in Islington's famed Camden Passage in 1978. They first specialised in 20th century abstract art and the decorative arts of the 19th and 20th centuries.

A few years later in 1982 David and Sonya discovered a passion for artist designed jewellery and made this their field of specialisation. Their eclectic choice of jewels spans the period from about 1860 until 1960, including a selection of significant designers from the Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Jugendstil and Art Deco movements in Europe.

During the last three decades they exhibited widely at art and antique fairs in London, New York and Tokyo. Until its demise in 2009 they were regular exhibitors at the Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair in London, and since then prefer a personal touch and invite customers to the annual Summer Exhibition at Tadema Gallery.

Clients include international museums, private collectors from all over the world and they strive to please and inspire those who simply enjoy the beauty and fun of wearing jewellery.

Elected to BADA membership for Jewellery: Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, British Arts & Crafts, Art Deco and artist-designed jewels, 1960.
