#BADATalks: new consumer law and the importance of terms and conditions of sale

With dealers in the digital age under ever-increasing obligations to consumers, the art market law firm Collyer Bristow will explain what happens when dealers sell online, in a customer’s home or at a gallery premises and why incorporating terms and conditions of sale can help protect against misunderstandings for all transactions.  The seminar will coincide with the re-issue of BADA’s recommended terms and conditions of sale for members.

The speakers are:

Howard Ricklow, partner at London solicitors Collyer Bristow.  Howard specialises in commercial and contract law, copyright, media, entertainment, art and sport law and the firm has a significant client base of artists and those operating in the art market.

John Rochman, partner at London solicitors Collyer Bristow.  John has a long legal career advising antique and art dealers, with an extensive knowledge of commercial contracts and issues relating to art for galleries, institutions, dealers and individuals.

Mette Marie Sutton, associate solicitor at London solicitors Collyer Bristow.  Mette’s art law experience includes acting for artists, galleries, museums, private collectors and government bodies advising on matters ranging from copyright infringement to art finance, as well as sale and consignment and ownership disputes.

Mark Dodgson, secretary general at BADA.  Mark has gained a wide insight into the transactions entered into by art and antique dealers and will use his layman’s experience to understand the practical implications of legal advice for the day to day activities of dealers.
